Someone’s Having a Baby!

BABY.

You have a friend, relative, or coworker that is expecting a baby and you were asked to host a baby shower. Where do you begin? How do you determine what the best baby shower favors are for the people that are attending. How do you know what gifts to buy for the mom-to-be?

It’s time to gather information. You should ask as many questions as you can from anyone who may be able to give you accurate answers. Of course if this is not a surprise shower, ask mom.  If it is a surprise, Dad and grandparents as well as other relatives can be a great source of information.

Find out who she might want to attend her shower. Find out if she knows whether she is expecting a boy or girl. Finding out her due date will also help you plan accordingly. You don’t want to plan to close to that date. Babies have a mind of their own and don’t always cooperate with the date the doctor says is time to enter the world. You don’t want your party interrupted by contractions.

You will undoubtedly have guests ask what gifts to buy and if you know the baby’s gender your job will be that much easier. Mom and Dad may be registered somewhere and then it is truly easy for gift buyers. You need to be able to provide that information to potential guests as well.

Deciding on the best baby shower favors is a matter of preference. Do you want something handmade? Would you rather buy something? Do you want the favors to be a food item? The internet has a wealth of information on some cute handmade favors. You will also find plenty of resources for purchasing favors.

If you can gather some help from friends, neighbors, family, or coworkers, there is nothing more personal than a handmade favor. I wouldn’t try this without help. You also need to be sure you have time to devote to this.

You have the shower organized and everything in place. It is time to move on to the gifts. You have several options for finding personalized gifts for babies. You can pick up the phone book and browse through the yellow pages. You can head to a local specialty shop or you can sit in the comfort of your home and do an internet search.

An Internet search will most likely bring you many more options than the phone book or your local boutique. You can find cute personalized baby gifts in a variety of styles. Some of the online resources will have everything from monogrammed baby blankets to personalized picture frames. Toys, clothing, towels, and even piggy banks can all be personalized. The list of possible options will amaze you. There is sure to be something to fit everyone’s budget.

If are fortunate enough to know that your mom-to-be is expecting a girl, you can put together a gift basket for a baby girl. It’s always a great idea to include diapers, something no parent ever wants to run out of.  You can include things like lotions, little girl clothes, and even a gift card to the local baby boutique. A diaper bag makes an excellent “basket” for your gifts. Now mom gets to use what is in the “basket” and the basket.

Keep in mind that putting a basket together on your own will take some time. It will be well worth the effort and mom-to-be will know you put a lot of love into your gift. However, if you don’t have that kind of time or this is a last minute gift, you will find some cute ideas online.

No matter what you decide to do or what recommendations you make to others, if you ask the right questions you are sure to get something that makes everyone happy.
